Learning
The
Skills
By

Nobody is better suited to working Spanish soil that the
Spanish, and the same thing applies equally to other Mediterranean
regions.
The
local people have thousands of years of accumulated wisdom, knowledge and skills behind them.
As newcomers to this land of promise we would be well advised to learn everything we can from the natives. It is clearly to our advantage if we can learn their language (not just
Castilian Spanish out of a textbook but the broad local dialect of the village people) and make friends. They have so much to teach us and most
campesinos are very warm, friendly people.
It's great to get involved in village life. Spaniards often work together, the whole
aldea working on communal projects collectively. They tend to be suspicious of newcomers at first, but if you show a willingness to lend a helping hand they will welcome you into their community after a time. That's when you really start to feel that you are LIVING in Spain and not just a long term tourist.
